The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and the University of Adelaide have announced the launch of a new node of the ARDC Nectar Research Cloud in South Australia. This significant expansion will provide researchers across the state with advanced computing capabilities, fostering innovation and collaboration.

Empowering Research with Advanced Infrastructure

The ARDC Nectar Research Cloud offers researchers rapid, interactive, and self-service access to large-scale computing infrastructure, software, and data. This initiative enables scientists and academics to tackle complex research challenges with cutting-edge technology, accelerating breakthroughs across diverse disciplines, from biology and engineering to artificial intelligence and social sciences.

Supported by the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), this new node will enhance accessibility to cloud-based resources, providing a seamless platform for researchers to analyze large datasets, collaborate globally, and develop innovative solutions without the burden of heavy infrastructure investment.

A Commitment to Research Excellence

Ben Chiu, Director of Services at the ARDC, emphasized the importance of this initiative:

“Establishing a new node at the University of Adelaide is a crucial step in supporting researchers across Australia. This node will provide essential computing resources that accelerate research, strengthen collaboration, and drive innovation. We are excited to partner with the University of Adelaide to make high-quality research infrastructure more accessible and impactful.”

Stephen Love, Director of Research Infrastructure and Platforms at the University of Adelaide, highlighted the benefits of the expansion:

“The launch of this new node significantly enhances the support available to researchers. It ensures they have the necessary resources to produce world-class research that addresses global challenges. Researchers in South Australia will now have increased access to cloud computing services, facilitating seamless collaboration on data-intensive projects with colleagues nationwide.”

Strengthening South Australia’s Research Leadership

Professor Anton Middelberg, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Adelaide, underscored the institution’s leadership in research:

“The University of Adelaide is proud to host this new node of the ARDC Nectar Research Cloud, which will benefit the entire South Australian research community. Collaboration is at the heart of high-quality, world-class research, and this initiative will further strengthen our ties with local and national research institutions.”

Showcase Event for Researchers

To highlight the capabilities of the ARDC Nectar Research Cloud, a showcase event will take place in Adelaide on Monday, February 24. Researchers can learn more about how this infrastructure can support their work. Presentations from University of Adelaide and ARDC experts will begin at 11 AM (ACDT) at the Flentje Lecture Theatre. Spots are limited, so early registration is recommended.
