I, the undersigned, hereby acknowledge and declare that I fully understand the financial responsibilities associated with studying in Australia under a scholarship. I confirm that I have been informed of the following important facts:


1. Scholarship Coverage Limitations

  • I understand that most scholarships only cover full or partial tuition fees.

  • I am responsible for all other costs not covered by the scholarship.


2. Additional Financial Responsibilities

I acknowledge that I am personally responsible for covering the following expenses, which are subject to change and should be verified at the time of application:

  • Travel Expenses:
    Approximate cost of return flights to and from Australia: AUD $2,000 – $3,500 per person.

  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC):
    Mandatory health insurance for the duration of my studies:

    • Single Cover: From AUD $600 – $800 per year.

    • Couples Cover: From AUD $3,000 – $5,000 per year.

    • Family Cover (Student with Dependents): From AUD $5,500 – $8,000 per year.

  • Living Expenses: (As per Department of Home Affairs guidelines)

    • Single Student: Estimated at AUD $29,710 per year.

    • Student with Partner/Spouse: Add AUD $10,394 per year.

    • Per Child (Dependent): Add AUD $4,449 per year.

  • Visa Application Fees and Health Examinations:

    • Visa Application Fee: Approximately AUD $710 for the main applicant. Additional fees apply for family members.

    • Medical Examinations: Between AUD $300 – $500 per person, depending on individual circumstances.

  • Textbooks, Study Materials, and Research Costs:

    • Estimated at AUD $1,000 – $2,000 per year, depending on the course of study.

    • Higher costs may apply for research-based programs.


3. Department of Home Affairs Financial Capacity Requirement

  • I understand that I must demonstrate financial capacity to cover tuition fees and all additional expenses listed above when applying for a student visa.

  • I acknowledge that failure to provide sufficient financial evidence may result in visa refusal.

Example 1: Single Student (12-Month Stay)

  • Travel Expenses: AUD $2,500

  • OSHC (Single Cover): AUD $700

  • Living Expenses: AUD $29,710

  • Visa Application Fee: AUD $710

  • Medical Examination: AUD $400

  • Textbooks and Study Materials: AUD $1,500

Total Estimated Additional Costs: AUD $35,520

Example 2: Student with Partner (12-Month Stay)

  • Travel Expenses: AUD $2,500 × 2 = AUD $5,000

  • OSHC (Couples Cover): AUD $4,000

  • Living Expenses:

    • Student: AUD $29,710

    • Partner: AUD $10,394

    • Total Living Expenses: AUD $40,104

  • Visa Application Fees:

    • Student: AUD $710

    • Partner: AUD $530

    • Total Fees: AUD $1,240

  • Medical Examinations: AUD $400 × 2 = AUD $800

  • Textbooks and Study Materials: AUD $1,500

Total Estimated Additional Costs: AUD $52,644

Example 3: Student with Partner and One Child (12-Month Stay)

  • Travel Expenses: AUD $2,500 × 3 = AUD $7,500

  • OSHC (Family Cover): AUD $6,500

  • Living Expenses:

    • Student: AUD $29,710

    • Partner: AUD $10,394

    • Child: AUD $4,449

    • Total Living Expenses: AUD $44,553

  • Visa Application Fees:

    • Student: AUD $710

    • Partner: AUD $530

    • Child: AUD $175

    • Total Fees: AUD $1,415

  • Medical Examinations: AUD $400 × 3 = AUD $1,200

  • Textbooks and Study Materials: AUD $1,500

Total Estimated Additional Costs: AUD $62,668

These are indicative figures and may vary based on individual lifestyle choices, travel arrangements, and health insurance provider rates. Always confirm the latest costs before making financial plans.


By signing this declaration, I confirm that I have read, understood, and accepted the financial obligations related to my scholarship application and student visa process.

It is strongly recommended that I provide evidence of financial capacity as part of my student visa application. This evidence may include, but is not limited to:

  • Recent bank statements showing sufficient available funds.

  • Fixed deposit certificates or term deposit account statements.

  • Loan approval letters for education purposes from recognised financial institutions.

  • Official financial sponsorship letters (if applicable).

  • Any other acceptable financial documents demonstrating access to funds.

Providing this evidence will demonstrate to the Department of Home Affairs that I have adequate financial resources to support myself and my dependents (if applicable) throughout my studies in Australia.

Minimum Recommended Financial Evidence:

  • Single Student: At least AUD $35,000.

  • Student with Partner: At least AUD $52,000.

  • Student with Partner and One Child: At least AUD $62,000.
